April 2024 - A paper from my dissertation work was accepted with minor revisions at the Annals of Botany and I working to incorporate the reviewers perspectives. Stay tuned!
March 2024 - A paper from my dissertation work titled " Support for Baker's Law: facultative self-fertilization ability decreases pollen limitation in experimental colonization" was accepted and is in press at the American Journal of Botany.
February 2024 - Was accepted as a participant to the Woods Hole Molecular Evolution workshop this upcoming summer! Looking forward to learning A LOT!
August 2023 - Started at Black Rock Forest.
July 2023 - Successfully defended my PhD, officially Dr. Hanna Makowski!
April 2023 - Offered and accepted the Black Rock Forest Postdoctoral Fellowship in Ecology. Starting Fall 2023, I will be collaborating with the Reinmann and Carnaval labs at CUNY to explore genetic variation in fall leaf phenology and its role in carbon cycling.
March 2023 - Set my defense date at my contract meeting with my committee members. I will be graduating this summer!
January 2022 - Received the Rosemary Grant Advanced award from the Society for the Study of Evolution for my field work studying the role of mating systems in colonization.
December 2021 - Was awarded a grant from the global inquiry center at UVA to expand my pollen-collecting hair work into multiple species.
April 2021 - Along with an undergraduate collaborator, I was selected as a Raven Fellow by The Raven Society at the University of Virginia.
March 2021 - The manuscript for my undergrad thesis work was accepted at Biochemical Systematics and Ecology!
June 2020 - Received a 2020 Bill Dahl Graduate Student Research Award from the Botanical Society of America and proposal was selected as the 2020 Karling Award, given annually to the top proposal.
May 2020 - Passed my Qualifying Exam, officially a PhD candidate!
October 2019 - Won an award for the best graduate student poster at the SEPEEG conference
August 2018 - Started graduate school at University of Virginia
July 2018 - Presented a talk at Botany 2018.
May 2018 - Graduated magna cum laude from Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame with a B.S. in Biology and a minor in Gerontology.
May 2018 - Awarded Young Botanist by the Botanical Society of America in recognition of outstanding seniors in the plant sciences
May 2018 - Awarded The George & Juanda Bick Nature Award from Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame in recognition for outstanding work and potential in an Environmental field.
